Why Science?
In today’s modern world, it is impossible not to interact with some form of technology on a daily basis. From our cars to our cell phones to our computers, technology is a fundamental part of our lives that we can’t live without. Yet, at some point in time, these devices and tools weren’t around.
Because science plays such an integral role in technological innovation and economic development, it is important to take the time to explore and experience various fields of science and raise awareness of its importance to our past, present and future. Also, Chicago is a leader in scientific and engineering endeavors and home to numerous science and technology corporations, which is another reason to celebrate the scientific achievements that we use every day.
Of course, not everyone needs to become a scientist. But everyone does need a certain amount of scientific knowledge just to understand the major issues of the day – evolution, global warming, stem cell research and DNA testing, to name only a few.
We hope Chicago Science in the City shows everyone – adults as well as children – that science can be interesting, exciting and fun for all.
